It's all well and good. The problem is when you combine selling spins to make real money, you also give the opportunity to win skill lamps in exchange for a common prize. What's more, it is frustrating due to the lack of transparency. Jagex is a ferocious murderer when RWT is committed, but they run their own RWT program.
Yes, I did read the OP. But I put a different spin on it, while answering the key questions: If you believe this bullet pointed list to be correct Should the SoF be shut down or be replaced? For Jagex theyre working against (at a minimum) 3 strikes in an extremely competitive & regularly changing industry;
An older (10 years+) game, which, despite constant changes and updates throughout the years, is considered to be an original and not "next thing" (like MOH & Counterstrike which still have a lot of players, but not regularly maintained except for servers online which are generally player responsibilities).
Runescape has been viewed as an "starter/kiddie MMORPG" by a lot of gamers. Like in point 1 the regular maintenance of the game and upgrades over time have disproved this notion. A lot of people don't bother to look at the game because of what they've heard/read.
A poor marketing strategy. Jagex/Insight Ventures still depend mainly on online marketing and word of mouth. There are exceptions, such as the gamer award and occasionally, TV advertisements in a few countries. These are a way to bring Jagex/Insight Ventures to the attention of those who otherwise wouldn't be aware. Runescape is not often featured in mainstream news reports. There are some instances of scammers and pedophiles however this isn't the kind of coverage Runescape merits.
